One Night Backpacking Course

Service Description

Our one night backpacking course is the perfect way to get comfortable with the basics of sleeping out in the woods. This class might be for you if: -you want to start backpacking but you have absolutely no clue how to get started -you have some experience backpacking, but you struggle with making decisions about what to bring or don't have all the gear -you want to meet other, like-minded women who are interested in backpacking and the outdoors *Please note some class participants must share a 3 person tent. Topics covered in this course will be: -preparing/planning gear -navigation -gear considerations/selection -clothing and layering -food and nutrition -Leave No Trace Principles -first aid kit prep -10 essentials -food/nutrition -cooking/stoves -sleep systems -shelters -water treatment and hydration -hygiene -Emergency situations (satellite messenger, etc) 1 night trip - Saturday-Sunday Saturday Day 1: Meet 11am Parking lot Welcome, introductions, course overview Review gear, food, clothing Practice setting up camp and then packing backpacks Map reading overview 10 essentials 2pm Begin hiking (4-5 miles) Hike 1 hour, optional trail lunch, hike 1 more hour 4pm Camp: Set-up tent, pads, bags Find water Fire skills Relax Make dinner, clean up Food storage safety Bed Morning: coffee, breakfast 1 hour hour out (1-2 miles)
