About Crescent Moon Outdoors
Crescent Moon Outdoors was created to help women feel confident, capable, and at home in the outdoors.
Based in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State, I offer small-group backpacking and camping experiences designed for beginners and those looking to build their skills. Through hands-on learning in a supportive environment, participants gain practical experience with gear, camp setup, navigation, cooking, and more—while building the confidence to plan and take their own trips.
All gear and meals are provided, so you can focus on the experience without the stress of preparation or equipment.
My goal is simple: to help more women feel comfortable stepping into the outdoors and trusting themselves once they get there.
Your Instructor & Guide
Hi, I’m Randi—founder of Crescent Moon Outdoors and a NYS Licensed Outdoor Guide (#9450).
I’ve spent hundreds of nights in a tent and in the backcountry, including two summers living out of my tent on a beach in Alaska. I’m an ADK 46er, have summited Mount Rainier, and have hiked and backpacked throughout the country and internationally.
I hold certifications in Wilderness First Aid, CPR, and am a Level 1 Leave No Trace Instructor, as well as an American Canoe Association Level 1 Kayak Instructor. I’m also a volunteer instructor and Board Secretary with the Adirondack Winter Mountaineering School and serve on the board of Women Outdoors, Inc., a national organization dedicated to empowering women in the outdoors.
But more than anything, I know what it feels like to learn through experience—figuring things out, making mistakes, and building confidence over time. That’s what I bring into every trip I lead.
My goal is to create a space where women can feel supported, capable, and confident in the outdoors—no matter their starting point.

Meet Luna
Luna is my Norwegian Elkhound who will (mostly) be joining us for class. She loves hiking, camping, and people and is a good nighttime fireside companion and snuggler.
